2020 Congressional Art Competition

Each spring, the U.S. House of Representatives sponsors a national high school arts competition. The Congressional Art Competition is a unique opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent of youth and teens in our district, as well as across the nation. ​This competition is open to all students in California’s 9th Congressional District. This includes the cities of Lodi, Stockton, Mountain House, Lathrop, Brentwood, Galt, Oakley, and parts of Antioch.

The deadline to submit artwork to our district offices is Friday, April 17, 2020.

Submit your artwork along with your release form at either of Congressman McNerney’s district offices:

The Congressional Art Competition is open to all high school students in the 9th Congressional District. The top winner of our district’s competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol tunnel which is seen daily by Members of Congress, staffers, and visitors alike. The exhibit will also include artwork from other contest winners nationwide.

Art works entered in the contest may be up to 26” x 26” x 4” (including the frame, if you frame the work), must be two-dimensional, and may not weigh more than 15 pounds.

Accepted mediums for the artwork are as follows:

  • Paintings – including oil, acrylics, and watercolor
  • Drawings – including pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, and markers
  • Collage
  • Prints – including lithographs, silkscreen, and block prints
  • Mixed Media
  • Computer Generated Art
  • Photography

All entries must be an original in concept, design and execution, and may not violate any U.S. copyright laws.
