Rep. McNerney Issues Statement on Resignation of VA Under Secretary for Benefits Allison Hickey
Washington – Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-09) today issued the following statement in response to the resignation of Department of Veterans Affairs Under Secretary for Benefits Allison Hickey:
“We must move beyond the waste and misuse of taxpayer money that have long been associated with the VA. Although the backlog of disability claims has decreased significantly under the leadership of VA Under Secretary Allison Hickey, her involvement with the misuse of funds within the Veterans Benefits Administration was unacceptable and had become a distraction that drew the department away from its core mission to take good care of our veterans. The VA needs strong leadership committed to putting veterans first, and correcting the mismanagement of their care. I will continue working with my colleagues in Congress to ensure that the VA addresses the backlog and quality of care, among other issues to ensure our veterans gets the care they so rightly deserve.”
