Washington, D.C. – Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-11) today issued the following statement on his opposition to S. 990, which renews provisions of the Patriot Act for a four year period. This legislation was considered by the House of Representatives today, May 26, 2011.
“As I’ve said before, I have serious concerns that aspects of the Patriot Act threaten our civil liberties. Today’s proposal to renew the Patriot Act would continue these policies – without any real reform – for another 4 years. That is simply not in our country’s best interest. Instead, we should pursue balanced policies that keep our country safe and protect our civil liberties.”
