Washington, D.C. – Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-11) today met with and congratulated a team of students from Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton who took 2nd place in the nationwide ‘We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution’ competition in Washington, D.C.

“The ‘We the People’ competition requires hard work, strong commitment, and dedicated study of our Constitution and Bill of Rights,” said Rep. McNerney.  “Once again, students from our community rose to the challenge and led the way at the nationwide ‘We the People’ competition.   I’m delighted to congratulate and honor the ‘We the People’ team from Amador Valley High School.  Our entire community can be proud of their achievement.”

The ‘We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution’ program, organized by the Center for Civic Education, strives to promote civic competence and responsibility among the nation’s elementary and secondary students.  At the high school level, students participate in simulated Congressional hearings and compete against other high school teams at the district, state and national level.  More than 30 million students have participated in the ‘We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution’ program since its start in 1987.
