Bill would name Post Office branch after Coale
Rep. Jerry McNerney, D-Stockton, has introduced a bill in the House of Representatives to designate the U.S. Postal facility at 1048 W. Robinhood Drive as the W. Ronald Coale Memorial Post Office. Coale, who died last year, served for 22 years on the Stockton Port Commission, including three as its chairman. He was a strong proponent of the Marine Highway, a federally funded project to move ocean cargo containers on barges between Stockton and Oakland. A former Stockton city councilman, Coale was instrumental in convincing the federal government to transfer the former Rough and Ready Island Naval Station to the port. Coale also served on the San Joaquin County Council of Governments, the Stockton Metropolitan Transit District Board and the California Public Utilities Commission.
